When you need to bake a cake and don’t have any frosting, who ya gonna call?…This recipe!

Standard

If you sing the title it’s much more fun.

So I just needed to post this recipe because it is an essential fall back on recipe. I use this frosting recipe any time I make a cake. Quick. Easy. Cheap. Delicious. And none of that extra junk like malidextrostic-hydrogenally-oil-based-extra-perserva-whats-it. What more could you ask for?

Unfortunately for me, I didn’t invent this recipe. I stole it off the back of a box. The C&H Powdered Sugar box to be exact. Don’t judge me, just used the recipe.

Here it is:

5 Minute Buttercream Frosting (off the sugar box)

All you need:

  • 1 lb box of powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 stick of salted butter, softened

(obviously, my goal is not health when i make this frosting)

All you do:

  1. Put all you ingredients together in a large bowl.
  2. Beat together for 2 minutes.
  3. Scrape the bowl often.
  4. For a thinner consistency add a bit of milk.

(this should frost one 8-inch two layer cake)

I used this recipe when I made the Cake Truffles.

Oh, I almost forgot. The sugar box even provides ways to add flavor to this recipe.

Chocolate-just add 1/4 of a cup of unsweetened cocoa powder and beat an extra minute.

Lemon-replace the milk with 1/4 of a cup of lemon juice and add 1 teaspoon of finely grated lemon rind

Orange-do the same with orange juice and orange rind

what the box calls “Sour Cream Tang”-add 3 tablespoons of sour cream and beat an extra minute

Plus you can always add any color food coloring. The pictures show frosting with a little bit of red food coloring for pink frosting.

Yum.

Enjoy!
